Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I have now compiled "--with-mpm=worker"
using all lower case letters and it worked fine.
I am now able to see "worker.c" as a list of Compiled in module when I
give the "./httpd -l" command.

Your config.log file says:

Note that you are using capital letters in your --with-mpm option. Does 
it work if you use all lowercase?
