hmm.. you should probably change this to
  #if APU_HAVE_NDBM
  #define DBM_MAP_TYPE "NDBM"
  #else
  #define DBM_MAP_TYPE "default"
  #endif

BTW ndbm support is in.. but it would be better if it got more testing
