'perchild' and 'mod_ssl' in apache2 work together, I've been experimenting
with MPM's on SSL servers and there are no visible flaws that prevent SSL
from working, but, with the threaded MPM's there does appear to be some
memory loss that dosen't exist in 'prefork', I'd have to do more checking
to be sure.

Is it possible mod_ssl is allocating shared memory but each page view is
being associated as a new mod_ssl 'session' in the threaded MPM's?

Disclaimer: Just my personal experience, I haven't spent any large ammount
of time troubleshooting it, but it's proably worth looking into..
