I bothered gunzipping, and frankly, I'm more keen to do a

  # ./buildconf
  # ./configure ...
  # make
  # make install

rather than a

  # ./installer.sh -b
  # ./installer.sh -c
  # ./installer.sh -I

(and given that "installer.sh" actually cats everything to /dev/null)...
