There's a little matter of something called 'compatibility.'
'Out with the old scoundrels and in with the new'?  I don't
think so..  Yes, modules are going to need major rewrites,
but that doesn't mean we should force *complete* rewrited on
the authors.  That's bigtime badness.  A simple 3P module
should be able to function correctly with minor changes to
the init function and the module structure.

Deprecate the old API if you like, but it needs to keep working
for time t.  Zapping it altogether is a non-starter, and -1 on it.
