Subject Logs in the global versus vhost scope
Date Fri, 26 Jan 2001 20:03:57 GMT
Making trouble again..

Currently both access- and error-logs in the global scope
are wholly superseded by any within a <VirtualHost> container.
That is, if a vhost doesn't include an access log, any defined
in the global scope will be used; if the vhost has *any* access
logs defined, *none* of those in the global scope will be used.
Likewise for the error logs.

Does anyone else think it occasionally might be nice to have
the ability to have a copy of *all* logged activity in a single
file, but also broken out for individual vhosts? That is, log
to *both* the vhost-specific *and* any globally-defined logfiles?

I could see that being useful to Web hosting companies; give
each customer their own CustomLog for their vhost, but also
log *all* traffic to a single file showing all activity
server-wide..

Just curious.. the occlusion situation in logging has always
bothered a little bit.
