I don't... but is that right? Does RH 7 now use gdbm instead of the
DB library for dbm functions?

The current tests use __GLIBC__ and __GLIBC_MINOR__ to
determine the correct header file:

    #if defined(__GLIBC__) && defined(__GLIBC_MINOR__) \
	&& __GLIBC__ >= 2 && __GLIBC_MINOR__ >= 1
    #include <db1/ndbm.h>
    #else
    #include <ndbm.h>
    #endif
