Subject mod_gzip now compresses dynamic content
Date Wed, 25 Oct 2000 02:35:34 GMT

FYI

New version 1.3.14.2 of mod_gzip is out that can compress
dynamic as well as static content. Works with PHP,
all CGI, Perl scripts, EXE files, binaries, whatever.
Even does pretty well with GRAPHICS.

Also already has support in it for store and forward of compressed
objects and local compressed object cache.

Complete source and pre-compiled binaries are online at...

http://www.RemoteCommunications.com/apache/mod_gzip/

There have been over 65,000 downloads of mod_gzip
from our site alone since it first appeared 10 days ago.

The rest is just the short README file that comes with mod_gzip.

mod_gzip v 1.3.14.2

Now compresses dynamic output as well as static files.

Works with PHP, CGI, Perl, EXE files, etc.

Coded for the 1.3.x series releases of Apache.

Works best with Apache 1.3.14.

See the INSERTx.TXT files for new httpd.conf
configuration directives. These files can be
inserted directly into your existing httpd.conf
Apache configuration file.

The ApacheModuleGzip.dll in this package is a
pre-compiled Win32 version of mod_gzip 1.3.14.2.

Just copy it to your .../modules directory, add the
INSERTx.TXT files to your httpd.conf file, and then
restart the Win32 Server.

DEBUG OUTPUT

mod_gzip 1.3.14.2 will write transaction debug entries to your
error.log file if you set your Apache log level to debug in
httpd.conf like this...

LogLevel debug

The following example shows mod_gzip compressing dynamic Perl script
output, image files, and HTML files. The last entry shows mod_gzip
compressing a 679,000 byte music CD collection document 93 percent
down to only 48k.
