It's just a different way of looking at things. config.nice requires that ./configure be run first. Also, I'm not sure if config.nice stores env vars. I think config.status also fits the bill of simply allowing one to "rerun" the current settings. I'm looking at something that allows someone to actually edit the file to change how stuff is built. Something easy to understand... Basically, just a wrapper that someone can use for their 1.3 stuff and use for 2.0.
