Yeah, but _NOBODY_ else does things like setting CPPFLAGS, or
stuff like that. People assume CFLAGS for everything, although
autoconf says it should only be for optim or debug.

I'm fine with either way, but this also means we need to adjust
all out Makefiles to support CPPFLAGS, etc.... :)
