"mhash is a thread-safe hash library, implemented in C, and provides a uniform 
interface to a large number of hash algorithms (MD5, SHA-1, HAVAL, RIPEMD160, 
TIGER, GOST).. HMAC support implements the basics for message authentication, 
following RFC 2104.

"mhash works on almost every UNIX platform with an ANSI C compiler. It uses GNU
utilities for increased portability (autoconf, automake, and libtool). The 
mhash library is distributed under a BSD-style license (see the respective 
source files for license details of algorithm implementations).
