I bow to your experience.  I saw the word "adjacent" in the
ANSI C standard; could find no definition of adjacent, and
went with the presumably most restrictive interpretation.  I
note that the one preexisting occurrence of such a construct
I found interposed the space.

Who makes such editorial changes in patches (assuming it ever
gets more than one +1 :-)
