BTW, Bob Jenkins hash function is actually _really_ good.  For my forthcoming
package (a low-level data structure library) last week I've evaluated and
compared hash functions, including his one and it performed very good.  It's
one of the fastest ones I've seen while it also distributes the keys very
well.  OTOH one has to say that Dan J. Berstein's popular (and a lot simpler)
"times 33" function is still nearly as good as Bob Jenkins function.
