indeed I run Linux 2.2.5 
Still, the nspr version runs with only 7 processes (created at launch)
whatever the load.
And if I've read the httpd.conf correctly, 8 clients with 8 threads each
should get me 64 entries in ps, not 81 ...  Tricky tricky
