I think that may be wrong, and that this is an issue we should > definitely come to a decision before such silly things as what APACI > actually does ;) I'm the guy who originally created this ugly name, so perhaps I should share its background: I speak it out usually the same way as as the english "apache", because the idea was that the first part is the first part of the english "apache" and the second part is somewhat like the first part of the italian "ciao" ;) (Dirk, don't strike me, please ;). Actually I had no great possibilities to choose the name because as you know it's actually just an acronym for "(AP)ache (A)uto(C)onf[-style] (I)nterface". And the first "AP" was clear because that's our common prefix for Apache. The following "AC" was also clear because AC is the usual prefix in Autoconf stuff. And so I got "APAC" or "ACAP". "ACAP" was ugly, so I took "APAC". But this was still ugly and couldn't be spoken out by me. Then I recognized the initial sound in "ciao" and that together with "APAC" it gets again the sound of "apache" with the nice side-effects that the "I" can stand for "(I)interface". Bingo! Ok, now I should be quiet and start crouching before people kill me for this name creation.... ;) Ralf S. Engelschall rse@engelschall.com www.engelschall.com
