Yes, is there some problem with recommending a non-Apache solution to a
problem?  Using doe snot on the gateway machine enables it to magically
proxy mail without needing to make Apache or any other app do it.

If doe snot is not available, there are a couple of other alternatives but
I hesitate to recommend them to the novice due to the potential for
rather... unpleasant smells.
