Interesting point here. Microsoft's Theater Server (the high-end NetShow
server) does this. It plops the pre-packetized content right down on the
drive partition (no filesystem to speak of). Pick them off the disk,
dump them to the card.  Needless to say, it is quite efficient, but
*very* single-purpose.
