Sounds lame to me, but I'm not a compiler freak.  I'll take your
word for it.

I've been using

EXTRA_CFLAGS=-Wall -Wshadow -Wmissing-prototypes
OPTIM=-O0 -g

on Linux.  I'll try changing to -O2.
