Because with more and more binary-only distributions, people don't have
the ready ability to change it and recompile.  Take the Win32 platform
as a radioactively glowing example.  As I've said before, it's the
*user's* server, not ours.

With over a million installations in the world, I would personally be
very cautious about assuming that the things of which I can think are
any substantial subset of what the end-users want to do.
