Could you give something like this:

         return ((const char *(*)(cmd_parms *, void *, const char *))
-		    (*cmd->func)) (parms, mconfig, args);
+		    (cmd->func)) (parms, mconfig, args);

a try?  ANSI-C says they're both identical, but folks may get them wrong.
