Ehem, let me explain: I'm against hard-wiring a software version number
into the API. (like the fvwm window manager did when they renamed their
config file from .fvwmrc to .fvwm2rc).

What happens with (identical) interfaces when you go to apache 3.0? An API
is always in the flux, that's just it. But the API should not be tied to
a specific version IMHO.
