Doesn't do what you want on FreeBSD or Linux where anonymous mmap() is
used instead of sbrk() for doing malloc.  This allows them to actually
return memory to the system via munmap when it's deemed appropriate, as
opposed to sbrk().  This is also how gnumalloc works on many systems --
especially for large allocations...
