The -X may not be a "port" but is sure a significant branch in the
process
model space's implementation.

I now think I'd describe this part of the space as how
the server life cycle is managed.
    - Lifecycle
       - parent
           - user, administrator
        - birth
           - launch by hand, launch by system facility
        - fiddling (both interprocess and user<->server)
           - scoreboard
           - unix signals
           - window's service manager
        - aging
           - counts and suicide
           - watchdogs and murdering
        - death
