r->notes isn't available to CGIs or SSI... and isn't passed around into
subrequests, and so forth.  subprocess_env is much more well "maintained". 
The unique id is best if it's always available. 

That reminds me ... r->request_config is bogus because of request
"promotion" that occurs during negotiation.  There's no API call that lets
you promote request_config from a subrequest to the parent.  I'll note a
PR on this one.
