Subject Re: [PATCH] hashed ip-vhosts
Date Sun, 03 Aug 1997 23:18:32 GMT
I had another thought. If we were to add a directive NameVHostAddr which
defined the address(es) on which name-vhost matching was done, instead of
using the main server's address ... then we'd eliminate almost every
single "I upgraded from 1.something to 1.2 and my vhosts are all screwed
up!" bug report. (i.e. all the ones I've been saying to use "ServerName
localhost" and <VirtualHost _default_>)

I would prefer if the default is no NameVHostAddr, requiring people to
enable the support. Even though there are already people out there using
name vhosts, I think doing this as the default breaks fewer configs than
what presently happens.

Maybe this plus the hashed ip-vhosts patch (with its semantic changes)
will be the end of broken vhost complaints! ;)
