The information I know of:

 - Current version: Sfio97

 - Distribution Size: 168861 bytes (sfio97.tar.gz)

 - Authors: David Korn & Kiem-Phong Vo.

 - Homepage: http://www.research.att.com/sw/tools/sfio/

 - License: (quoted)
"Permission to use, copy, modify, and distribute this software for any
purpose without fee is hereby granted, provided that this entire notice is
included in all copies of any software which is or includes a copy or
modification of this software and in all copies of the supporting
   documentation for such software."

 - Supported platforms: (quoted)
"This version of the library has been ported to all known UNIX platforms
including various flavors of IRIX, SUNOS, Solaris, Ultrix, MVS/OpenEdition,
   Linux and BSDI."

So, Sfio can be an option for us.

Greetings,
