If you use the SCO cc, you need -K noinline to avoid a bogus optimization.

If you use gcc under SCO, the whole thing will crap out because gcc
doesn't do -K noinline.

The below should fix it.  Configure is still bogus because it doesn't know
what CC from Configuration is (seems like a very simple eval could change
that...), but that's another issue.  Note that the $CC test is also bogus
right now (but duplicates others there) because $CC is never set at this
point.  Erk, worse because if someone has CC set in their environment it
will be a big confused mess.
