Subject [BUG] Virtual hosts on different ports
Date Wed, 23 Apr 1997 13:53:54 GMT
Hi,

It appears to me that it is impossible to implement Virtual Hosting based
on different port number only. Is that correct?

The "vhosts-in-depth" paper is of help only insofar as it states that
there are "ip-based" and "non-ip-based" virtual hosts, and a "port based"
virtual host is neither.

    Martin

==Example==
In the example below, a request to http://deejai.mch.sni.de:8080/ is
always served by the deejai.mch.sni.de:8000 virtual host (i.e. the
document is /home/martin/WWW-deejai8000/index.html
instead of  /home/martin/WWW-deejai8080/index.html

An excerpt from the httpd.conf used for my host:

Port 8080
Listen 8000
Listen 8080
DocumentRoot /home/martin/WWW-mainhost
ServerName DeeJai.mch.sni.de

<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1>
  Port 8080
  DocumentRoot /home/martin/WWW-localhost
  ServerName localhost
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost deejai.mch.sni.de:8000>
  Port 8000
  DocumentRoot /home/martin/WWW-deejai8000
  ServerName deejai.mch.sni.de
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost deejai.mch.sni.de:8080>
  Port 8080
  DocumentRoot /home/martin/WWW-deejai8080
  ServerName deejai.mch.sni.de
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost _default_>
  Port 8080
  DocumentRoot /home/martin/WWW-deejai80
  ServerName deejai.mch.sni.de
</VirtualHost>
