It doesn't work at all on my system:

fielding@kiwi% ./Configure
Using config file: Configuration
Using Makefile template file: Makefile.tmpl
 + configured for Solaris 2 platform
 + setting C compiler to gcc
awk: syntax error near line 1
awk: bailing out near line 1
awk: syntax error near line 3
awk: bailing out near line 3
fielding@kiwi% which awk
/usr/bin/awk

No idea why.
