It works for me running the BSDI 3.0 Gold version. This is from
a connection to www.netscape.com (half their servers are refusing
connections right now, the other half are resetting the connection
halfway through sometimes... <sigh>). Have not tried with Apache.

First, I load part of an image and then stop in the middle. Then I hit
return from the URL box with the URL of the image in.

Navigator first sends:

GET /escapes/galleria/images/showcase_2.jpg HTTP/1.0
If-Modified-Since: Thursday, 21-Nov-96 02:36:23 GMT; length=39212
Connection: Keep-Alive
User-Agent: Mozilla/3.01Gold (X11; I; FreeBSD 2.1.5-RELEASE i386)
Host: www9.netscape.com
Accept: image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, image/jpeg, image/pjpeg, */*
Cookie: NETSCAPE_ID=1000e010,105fdce1

The server replies:

HTTP/1.0 304 Use local copy
Server: Netscape-Enterprise/2.0b4
Date: Mon, 10 Feb 1997 07:51:04 GMT
Connection: keep-alive

Then the client does:

GET /escapes/galleria/images/showcase_2.jpg HTTP/1.0
Connection: Keep-Alive
User-Agent: Mozilla/3.01Gold (X11; I; FreeBSD 2.1.5-RELEASE i386)
Range: bytes=14720-
Request-Range: bytes=14720-
Host: www9.netscape.com
Accept: image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, image/jpeg, image/pjpeg, */*
Cookie: NETSCAPE_ID=1000e010,105fdce1

And the server replies:

HTTP/1.0 206 Partial content
Server: Netscape-Enterprise/2.0b4
Date: Mon, 10 Feb 1997 07:51:05 GMT
Last-modified: Thu, 21 Nov 1996 02:36:23 GMT
Content-range: bytes 14720-39211/39212
Content-length: 24492
Content-type: image/jpeg
Connection: keep-alive
