Note that HPUX 10.somethingorother doesn't need the typecast for select
anymore.  I know 10.20 doesn't (I have access to a 10.20 box and see
PR#147).  Arrrrrrgh.

These tests break compiling using gcc on HPUX.  CC isn't set until after
this, so it is always using the odd HPUX flags which gcc doesn't like.
