    Well, since the general opinion seems to be that addressing this
    problem is a feature rather than a bugfix, does anyone object to my
    sending the patch to the reporter?  With the clear statement that it
    isn't part of mainline Apache and won't be (at least not in its
    current form)?  I can't say I'm perfectly happy with it myself -
    it's a module-specific workaround rather than a real fix - but it
    does the job for now..
