Hmmm. I have ranlib on IRIX. Now I'll have to change it back?

If you use gcc, you'll have it. If you only have the SGI compiler, you
won't. This should probably be the way the RANLIB variable gets set.

if CC=cc, then RANLIB=true

if CC=gcc, then RANLIB=ranlib
