I'm using BSDI 2.0 here, and I tried compiling with shlicc2, and after looking
at ps output it doesn't really look like there's much overall difference in
size.  While the virtual size in memory is larger (750K per for
gcc-created versus 550K for shlicc-created), the resident set size isn't
significantly different (varying between 350 and 500K), so that leads me to
think it doesn't really impact the number of concurrent children you can run
with a given amount of system memory, given sufficient swap.  The binary itself
is smaller, but that doesn't affect performance as far as I can tell.
