I know that Apache compiles just fine on 6.2, using either the SGI cc or GCC.
I'm not sure whether the 5.3 binary will run on 6.2 however, particularly if
you're on a Challenge L or Onyx or something with a 64-bit chip, but I would be
surprised if it didn't, as most of my other 5.3 applications worked just fine
when I upgraded a machine to 6.2 recently.  What were the error conditions?
