Subject Config changes consensus?

There hasn't been any real discussion on the proposed Config changes.
Basically, the options are:

   #1: Keep things as they are
   #2: Use GNUautoconf (NewConfig.tar) to determine OS/Platform
   #3: Use os.guess to determine OS/Platform

I'm assuming that the lack of discussion means that #1 is choice of
most members (usually, when there is a proposed change and there
appears a lack of interest, I feel that the safest option is to
take that as a lack of interest in the change, and not as an OK
for it)...
