That is probably just a corrupt cache.  Try holding the shift key down
when doing the reload.

I just tested the protocol output from

   % telnet www.apache.org 80
   Trying 204.152.144.38 ...
   Connected to www.apache.org.

   GET / HTTP/1.0
   If-Modified-Since: Mon, 17 Jun 1996 21:21:41 GMT
   Accept: */*

   HTTP/1.0 304 Not Modified
   Date: Mon, 17 Jun 1996 21:23:53 GMT
   Server: Apache/1.1b3-dev
    
   Connection closed by foreign host.

and it is correct (identical to that given by 1.0.5 at net.result.com).
