Oops, that was a mistake in the posting.
The entry in the access.conf looks like this:
<Location /status>
SetHandler server-status

<LIMIT GET>
order deny,allow
deny from all
allow from .mydomain.domain
</LIMIT>
</LOCATION>

When I try to access status I get Error 403. The error log has
Client denied access by Server configuration.

I can get the server to allow my access if I take the deny from all out.

I tried the same the Location directive with a plain HTML URL and had the 
same result.
