Yep, that's what safecat is doing...

What problems where you seeing?.. The way I wrote it (well, the way I
_wanted_ it to work) was that if the PidFile or ScoreBoardFile started
with "/", then safecat wasn't even used, just a strcpy.

The lookfor() routine should accept absolute pathnames "as is"...
