damn, it doesn't seem to be set for NeXT.

On a SunOs unix, it's set to 6,

#define RLIMIT_NOFILE   6               /* maximum descriptor index + 1 */

Not sure if it's a good idea to just add that, but you can try, maybe even
compile with -DRLIMIT_NOFILE=6
