https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=57017

            Bug ID: 57017
Summary: shtml version of ssi is incomplete
           Product: Apache httpd-2
           Version: 2.4.6
          Hardware: PC
                OS: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: mod_ssl
          Assignee: bugs@httpd.apache.org
          Reporter: russ@ashlandhome.net

After 5 years of hosting a site using the +x version of your ssi. moved the
site to a host that uses the shtml version. Updating the menu to sthml was no
problem. The problem is too many clients were bypassing the menu and did not
know that the url was changed. As a work-around, wrote 40 small html files that
redirects html requests to shtml

Suggested fix:
  If client requests foo.html
and server does not have foo.html and does have foo.shtml, then

  1. Process ssi as usual
2 Change suffix of exported file from shtml to html

Thank you
