Subject DO NOT REPLY [Bug 48919] New: Ability to stop inheriting AddDescription
Date Mon, 15 Mar 2010 23:19:17 GMT
https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=48919

Summary: Ability to stop inheriting AddDescription
           Product: Apache httpd-2
           Version: 2.3-HEAD
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: P2
         Component: mod_autoindex
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: lion@netngine.hu

When I set an AddDescription for a directory, it gets inherited to all
subfolders and files in that directory. In some (or many?) cases this makes no
sense, description should be applied only to one directory.

I think a new IndexOptions could be added, something like
DescriptionInherit=All|Files|Off

Example: "Utils", "Compression related tools for Linux, DOS and Windows", but
then this long text is added to every single subdirectory and file. Unless I
would define new descriptions for them, or I define this:

AddDescription " " *

(Actually, I wanted to label only the topmost 10 directories of an FTP site, to
help users, and then I realized that everything gets all the way down. I wonder
if this inherit is useful in any case...is it?)

Thanks in advance!
