Subject DO NOT REPLY [Bug 47475] New: mod_rewrite: add flag to break the loop
Date Mon, 06 Jul 2009 06:46:57 GMT

Summary: mod_rewrite: add flag to break the loop
           Product: Apache httpd-2
           Version: 2.2.8
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows XP
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: mod_rewrite

Consider following rules:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^(.*/)?index\.php$ $1 [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?page=$1 [L]

These rules results in infinite loop, where redirects itself
to the same url. It will be good to add additional flag to break this loop,
because [L] does not do it - mod_rewrite starts processing ruleset from

BTW, I know that in many cases it is possible to use RewriteCond to avoid it,
but sometimes it is really tricky.
