I'm experiencing the same symptoms as Igor (single httpd sucking up 90% cpu
time) using 2.2.10 test release on Opensuse 10.3 x86_64 and have a couple of
observations to add.

I run worker in a pure reverse proxy scenario (built with included apr) with
one major difference than Igor being that I do not use mod_deflate at all.

First observation is that the out of control process had three sockets open and
they were all in CLOSE_WAIT hoping to eventually be released.

Second observation is that after defining "disablereuse on" for every
proxypass, the problem has not reoccurred.  In addition errors of the type
"(70014)End of file found: proxy: error reading status line from remote server"
 have disappeared.  

Happy to provide any information that I can to help on this, just tell me what
is needed.
