    I suppose this patch works for this issue.  Maybe you could apply this
patch to the 2.2, 2.0 and 1.3 branches.

    However, the result is still not OK.  It now says "couldn't check user",
where I do not know what it means at all.  This seems to be specific to the 2.3
branch, while 2.2 works fine.  I attached the log below.  Should I file a new
bug on this?
