yes, Jeff, using EnableSendfile Off fixed the issue.

So the bug is (arguably) that apache didn't even know! 

It logged no error, and furthermore, logged that all the bytes of the file were
successfully sent. 

Should I file this as a new bug, "Apache doesn't notice files over 64KB are
truncated when using sendfile on SMB mounted filesystems?" Let me know
(alternately, perhaps it's a bug against sendfile())
