There is no way for security reasons that we would permit the machine or
share name to map to a user name :)

Apache in this case treats //foo/bar as a root that isn't subject to any
user * substitution.  Consider it a feature, feel free to hack around it.

It's the UserDir directive, neither foo or bar from //foo/bar are actually
directories.
