I used Process Explorer to check it. And still - no zombies. And I didn't use 
binaries from the site you mentioned. I've compiled it by myself and 
tried .msi package from Apache's website.
After:
C:\Documents and Settings\Vladimir>net start apache2
The Apache2 service is starting.
The Apache2 service could not be started.

A service specific error occurred: 1.

And you can see the list of processes

If I start httpd.exe from command line then, of course, there will be 
rotatelogs processes which will disappear as soon as I stop apache with ctrl+c
