Ok. Next step :-).
If the server hangs again please do the following as root:

netstat -apn | egrep ":80 .*CLOSE_WAIT"

This results in a list of processes which have connections in CLOSE_WAIT state.
Please choose a pid from one of those processes. E.g this would be 1681 in
the following line from your output

tcp        0  14520 ip:80        60.48.71.121:3524       CLOSE_WAIT 1681/apache2

and attach gdb to this process and issue the gdb command

thread apply all bt full

as done by you in comment #6.
