Summary: Patch to ab to route requests to a specific IP address
           Product: Apache httpd-1.3
           Version: HEAD
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: P2
         Component: Other
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: chris@mysociety.org

When benchmarking a website, especially when testing new configurations, it is
sometimes useful to be able to route HTTP requests to addresses other than those
given in DNS for the site. The attached patch to ab creates a new -r option
which allows the user to specify an IP address explicitly.

Examples of where this is useful: where a website is multihomed and you want to
test performance on the different servers explicitly; where you are testing
(say) an HTTP accelerator, and want to route requests to that but not change the
DNS for the main site.
